Taboo-confronting drama in which recently-widowed May moves in with her daughter and family and starts an affair with younger man Darren. It’s an uncomfortable slice of life story based on Hanif Kureishi’s novel and about as far from Notting Hill as it’s possible to get. Anne Reid was nominated for a BAFTA for a masterly portrayal of the Mother.
